Interviewers
Staff members: Jennifer Heckmann (Europe)
The interviewer is a person of excellent personal communication skills. They need to understand the goal of the interview: to solicit details regarding life in the LDS Church in Germany during World War II (How did the individual member, the family, and the branch survive the challenges of the era?) They need to know enough about German history to understand stories without having to interrupt the interviewee for extraneous explanations (What was the Hitler Youth?). Knowledge of the German language is crucial when references are made to common German personal and place names, as well as terms such as Reich, Wehrmacht [German army], Lokal [meeting place], Feuersturm [fire storm] and GFV [MIA]. Interviewers must be able to efficiently juggle questions, answers, and follow-up questions, while keeping an eye on the clock, the tape recorder, etc. If you are or know an eyewitness who has not been interviewed on this topic, please contact us at rpm@byu.edu. |
