Roger P. Minert served in the West German Mission and earned a BA in German from Brigham Young University. He earned an MA in German literature and a PhD in German language history from Ohio State University. After teaching German at the high school and college level, he joined the faculty of BYU as an associate professor of Church History and Doctrine.
