German Latter-Day Saints in Wolrd War II
Archive
Although our project is complete and the books written, we continue to solicit the kinds of items described on this page. Please see the last two paragraphs should you have items you believe we would like to see.
Autobiographical Texts:
Some LDS persons wrote about their wartime experiences later on. We are seeking copies of any such literature. Please consider sending this to us.
Biographical Texts:
A very few biographies have been written about the experiences of eyewitnesses (essentially all of whom are now deceased). Please help us obtain copies of these or inform us as to where we can procure them.
Photographs:
Our goal is to have a photograph of each branch in the years 1938-1940. Pictures of the branch buildings (interior and exterior) are also of great value to us. For the Memorial Book ( the appendix to each branch chapter in the book ) we would like to have a photograph of each deceased person. Photographs should be sent to us digitally; you may take digital images of your photographs and send them to us via email, or scan the photographs into the computer and attach the images to an email. These may be sent to us at rpm@byu.edu .
Diaries:
These are extremely rare, but therefore of immense value. We would be pleased to review any diaries written by qualified eyewitnesses during World War II. Copies of diary pages would of course be the best we could hope for.
Letters:
Any letters written during World War II by or to qualified eyewitnesses are wonderful potential sources of information for our book. Please consider sending us copies of these as well.
Other Documents:
Birth, marriage, and death certificates (1939-1945), military papers, employment and school papers, ration tickets, and any other miscellaneous literature related to life in Germany in Austria during World War II are superb sources of information that we would like to see. We hope you would be willing to copy and send these to us (including documents you cannot identify).
Realia and Regalia
We would like to see any such items you might have (military insignia and uniform articles and anything else from the Third Reich and the World War II era).
Sharing your valuables:
PLEASE do not send us any of the above kinds of items through the mail. We will be pleased to send one of our project team members to your home (Wasatch Front) to make digital photographs of these items. If you live farther away, we hope you can find a friend or neighbor who can make the digital copies for you and send them to us by email.
Copyright Notice:
Our book will include the proper source and identification of all such items used as illustrations. All text from your literature that we quote in our book will be attributed to the owner.
